THE NEED FOR STEAM ENGINEERS IN ANY STEAM PLANT

Every factory in Malaysia is governed by the Factories & Machinery Act, 1967. It is clearly specified in the Factories and Machinery (Persons In Charge) Regulations 1970 that every steam boilers installation should be manned and operated by certified competent persons such as Boilerman and Steam Engineers.
Steam boilers and its associated equipment, are without doubt, pose significant degree of hazards that come with them in particular the containment of very high pressure steam, at temperature above 100 deg. celcius and the raging combustion process in the boilers.
Thus, boilers should only be operated by certified competent persons such as Boilerman and Steam Engineers, at all time. It is the responsibility and duties of these competent persons to ensure that the boiler operations are carried out according to the regulations stipulated in the FMA, to advise boiler owners on the condition of the boilers and continuous corrective actions deemed necessary, to assist DOSH officers in execution of their duties and to operate the boilers to the highest safety standard as far as possible.
As time changes, plant owners have appointed Steam Engineers for efficient energy system consulation, particularly, in these times that we live in, where fuel prices keep on increasing if not constantly fluctuating, Steam Engineers expertise and consulations are being sought after.
Steam Engineers consult plant owners on many ways on how to get the best out of the heat energy produced by the steam generation plant.
